Update 21:41 UTC : A new aftershock just happened but people felt it as weaker than the mainshock we are discussing on this page.
Update 21:24 UTC : damage is being reported in the National University of Engineering in Managua
– The Cathedral of Managua was slightly damaged
– Nicaragua seismological agency reported that the depth of the earthquake was 101 km, 1/3th less than the other reporting international agencies. Thius shallower depth can explain the additional damage, even with a deep earthquake.
Update : More broken water pipes are reported in Managua, Nicaragua
Update : a landslide is reported at the Xiloa volcanic lagoon (source RT)
This earthquake is not to be called an aftershock of the M6.1 earthquake who happened on April 10.
Compared to the 6.1 earthquake who was extremely shallow, this one is a normal subduction earthquake which should normally be called harmless. After the M6.1 however, this earthquake can also generate some additional damage
