November 20-26

Overall Color for the Week:   Moss Green

This week there is much in the air that indicates the direction of things as the year winds down and the Holiday Season begins.  Take time to see what it is that you wish to have as your culmination for 2011.  Look around at things that are and are not working in your life, and know that in the crescendo of the energy at this time, there is the potential for great and quick change.  This is not a time for over-thinking things, that can just lead to some overlooking.  This is a time for truly being in the flow and in the know, the know being that you are taken care of and if you allow the best you deserve, it will happen.  Trust your intuition.  That cannot be stressed enough.  Intuition will get you through many tough situations.  Do not fall into judgment about yourself or others. You will see more and more odd behaviors from those whom you have known for quite some time.  As this month nears it close, more and more unions are being shaken up and more and more health situations are arising.  Again, if you go within to your heart, you will feel what this is all about.  Know that in all things you have both power and choice.  Use them wisely.  You will also be finding that more and more things are going bump, as odd noises and occurrences happen.  Your senses are changing.  You see things that cannot be there, but are.  The same with sounds, hearing odd things.  Taste preferences are changing.  Smells are affecting you differently.  And even the feel of things is shifting. Thanksgiving Day Forecast fr/Storm Central

Your Thanksgiving Day Forecast; Rain for the NW-Mild for the Central US-Average for the NE

November 17, 2011  |   Posted by:

The Holidays are quickly approaching with Thanksgiving little than 6 Days Away Now! Shockingly enough, it seems as it was just Halloween. With Thanksgiving being less than a week away, many think of flurries and a cold morning to wake up to for Black Friday Deals! But actually you are in for a treat this Thanksgiving as mild temperatures and a dry air mass will take hold for your Holiday.

 Lets Break it Down:
Northwest:
-Another storm, this one being a rain producer, is going to be affecting the northwest into Thursday and Friday with the low pressure coming from the Gulf of Alaska. That is going to make way for a wet, not a washout, but a wet and windy Thanksgiving. Temperatures will also be chilly with most areas seeing temperatures in the 40′s and 50′s. Low 40′s for the Mountains but no snow is forecast at the moment.

Southwest:
-A warm Thanksgiving as always with temperatures in the 50′s and 60′s are likely. Mountainous areas will see temperatures in the 30′s and 40′s. No precipitation is expected.

South:
-Rain may take a big part as a low pressure may or may not develop in the Atlantic. A weak pressure would still bring rain to the Gulf States (aside from Texas). As for a Severe Weather Chance we are monitoring that chance for a Friday chance but showers seem to be the biggest threat on Thursday. Not a wash out with temperatures above 50 is likely. Florida will see temperatures in the 60′s and 70′s.

Southeast:
-Looks to be a dry and sunny holiday for the southeastern states from Virginia to Georgia.

Northeast:
-Thanksgiving is on tap for an average November day with temperatures in the 40′s and 50′s. Some models are showing a developing low pressure to swing in sometime in the second half of the week so changes may need to be made for a shower or snow chance. Stay Tuned!

Great Lakes:
-A windy and mild day is on tap for most regions with areas seeing 40 to 50 degree temperatures. No precipitation is expected but with a high pressure in play, windy conditions with rapid pressure changes is forecast to occur.

North:
-No Snow! A chilly November day with no precipitation expected. Most locations will be in the 40′s with some locations way north in the 30′s.

Central United States: (All Other Regions):
-A mild day on tap with temperatures in the 40′s and 50′s. No snow, or rain is forecast but along with the great lakes, you will see windy conditions which will bring the  windchill to near freezing. A freeze or frost may be in store for your morning shopping deals so dress for the weather!

On behalf of the whole team at Storm Central, we would like to wish you Happy Thanksgiving to all! With that will come a special opportunity at Storm Central but details will be released over the weekend on our facebook page. So Stay Tuned! Also, this forecast may change over the next few days but a huge change is not expected! Please SHARE this outlook/forecast to your family and friends as they too will be celebrating turkey day too.

Winter Weather Forecast fr/Storm Central

Welcome to Storm Central’s Winter Weather Forecast for the 2011-2012 Year. Now, Might I begin by saying this is going to be quite an active year just like last year. All aspects being in play have narrowed this down to another La Nina pattern for the United States. Now let me explain what the causes of La Nina would be:

La Nina: In the simplest terms La Nina is the warmer water in the Equatorial Eastern Central Pacific Ocean. These situations of La Nina (Which means Girl in Spanish) can develop quickly. For example: We had a La Nina pattern for much of the Winter of 2010-2011 and into the spring time. This pattern, the La Nina effect, caused all the troubles with the Severe Weather and Tornado Outbreaks in both April 27-28 of April and the other Outbreak in May with the Joplin Tornado. Usually, La Nina creates a warmer type of pattern but as shown by last year this pattern can create negative impacts to the areas where their isn’t warmth. La Nina pattern affects other areas rather than the United States and can send negative positive impacts or negative impacts across the globe.

Since La Nina pattern is in effect once again, expect most of the same from last year to occur this year. Allot of the areas that were hit last year hard will once again be hit hard again.

The biggest player in all this would be the Greenland Blocking Pattern. The Greenland Block is the a big deal to the United States. It basically states if you get a Mild Winter with Little Snow to a Cold Winter with lots of snow. The Greenland High, Situated over Greenland affects Earth all the way around. Now When you have the greenland high in place, Jet Stream winds are forced over and around the high. With that can bring a sign of trouble for The United States if this plays out. Basically, the Pacific Jet Stream ushers in cold air from Alaska into Canada then can bring very cold air into the United States. With that, the Jet heads northward over the high and around it and into Europe where the chilly airmass could affect them two. Now remember, aside from Un Cut lows, the Pacific Jet Stream is where most of our seasonal and un seasonal Winter Storms come from. With that Greenland Blocking Pattern In affect, that would keep the warm air south and west in the United States and the cold air over the center, north and east in the United States. Keeping all that in mind, that means all the low’s would ride that Pacific Jet Stream. Not all go that south, some are un-cut and some do an Alberta Clipper style and go to the north with little moisture. But the ones that go south get moisture from the Gulf Of Mexico then ride northward are the dangerous storm complexes to watch as they dip far enough south, get moisture, then ride into the great lakes or Ohio Valley. These can produce Ice Storms to KY, AR,TN and blizzards to MO, IL, IN, OH and the whole East Coast.

Storm Central’s Forecast:
-Storm Central is forecasting the La Nina Pattern with a weak to moderate Greenland Block during the Winter. As other outlooks have been, they have more of a strong blocking which would send very cold air all the way south to the Gulf Coast along with Precipitation. Below is an example of a real life situation with the Greenland Blocking Pattern. As you can see if you enlarge the graphic by clicking it, you see the pacific jet being marked in Purple with the Greenland High being over Greenland Itself. The effects on this situation would be a moderate blocking which would only send the jet stream as far south as Tennesse. Based on this patter, The west stays warm and the Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and whole East Coast stay very cold. Now this can move from side to side every week. That means just because your below the jet for that week and could be in the 4-’s with rain could mean you could be in the 30′s and snowing the next week. Some weeks, espically early winter when I forecast this to be way north with the core of cold staying North into Northern Midwest, you will see no action during this time.
Effects on Weak/Moderate/Strong Greenland Blocking:
-Weak: Jet Stream stays to the north and the blocking is considered weak. Weak meaning the core of cold will stay to the north. This is the best time for Alberta Clippers to set down a good 4 inch snowfall in a day and be out of there. This is not a great lake producer as you need low pressures to move south of the lake to turn the winds off the lake therefore produce lake effect snowfall.

-Moderate: This Forecast for the blocking could be the worse out of all them for the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. This would take any storm system south that has a good potential to pick up gulf moisture and then move northeastward and precipation. Depending on temperatures, this could be in the form of snow, rain, sleet, ice ect. Im sure everyone remebers the 2011 Blizzard or some call it the Ground Hog Day Blizzard of 2011. it took this type of path and gathered tons of moisture that moved northeast and dumped snow. Other factors caused the winds and we had a 20inch+ Blizzard for allot of areas. If this pattern takes shape we could see a repeat of the 2011 Blizzard. Now also this takes the core of cold air southward so portions of Missouri and Arkansas would be chilly two.

-Strong: This forecast is the worst for the South. This pattern would be a very strong blocking and would take systems south and then northeast again into KY, TN, WV and then into the East Coast with snow and ice. Very cold tempearures would reach all the way south to Missippi and Alabama. This realitively doesn’t occur for a long time with a long shot of cold air but the potential is their.

Now, as most of you know me I love to talk and I’m hitting 1100 words and I am not even at the good part yet. Now for the Forecast!

Storm Central is predicting a big year once again. This years winter will include both the Moderate and Weak Blocking Pattern with timing being forecast later. The La Nina pattern will be in full force this year.

November 6-12

Overall Color for the Week:    Light Grey

Is it at all possible that you are not yet aware of all the shifts and changes that are happening all around you, and at times, even within you? There is so much going on, and that is leading everyone ot feeling a bit unsettled, testy, and not quite with it.  There can be times of intense distraction, when all of a sudden you will snap out of it and wonder where you were and what just happened.  Your sense of what is important is shifting.  Time seems out of whack.  Pay attention to when these things happen, for there is meaning in it.  You will begin to see in others certain patterns and behaviors that can either attract you or turn you off.  People are shifting and changing, just as you are.  This can lead to changes in friendships and relationships.  There are many choices to be made at this time, and one of them is whether or not you wish to remain where you are, when, you are and with whom you are.  This is not a time for precipitate action, .  Slow and steady, in this case, will more than win the day, it will assist you in making the changes you have been wanting to make, and in becoming the WHO you chose to be at this time.  Trust your intuition and do not let go.  There is comfort and assistance if you will call upon it and accept it Continue reading

Overall Color for the Week:    Light Lime Green

So, if you were not aware of it yet, you will be finding more and more that the veils keep getting thinner and thinner.  Along with those little guys on the stairs will come smells, sounds, vibrations, and even really, really real stuff coming through.  There is no fear in any of this, rather when these things happen, take a moment to see where you are, what you are doing, and try to get a sense of why your NOW has attracted this energy.  You might be surprised to find out what it is.  It can also give you an indication of how who you are, what you are doing and being right now fits into the larger plan, the path, the unfolding that you chose when you agreed to step into this turn of the Wheel.  iI you are one of those who finds themselves trapped within a job, a relationship, a community in which you are not feeling yourself fulfilled or valued, know that this week will give you opportunities to see things for what they are and to make choices as to where you want to go from there and what you want to do.  Around you, there will be people and animals making choices for themselves, choices to transition, choices to make major life and/or path changes.  Allow for that.  Know that they are honoring themselves.  We all have schedules and timetables.  And  priorities.  This is the time to become very clear on your priorities. October 16-22

Overall Color for the Week:    Light Lavender

Once again, this is an hold-onto-your-hats kind of week as the energies shift, change, and collide.  The old and the new will become more and more incompatible.  You will see this on all levels and in all areas of your life, as well as in the world at large.  There is sorrow attached to much of this.  Honor your feelings and know that they are at this time an important type of catharsis.  By allowing them their process, you can move through many issues and turmoils in your life. This is not a week for holding tightly or strongly to things around you, rather it is a time for being firmly grounded in WHO you are and centered in your Core Self.  Go to the heart for counsel when you are unsure.  Listen to your intuition.  And know that your connection to the Universal Consciousness is clear, strong, direct, and  infallible.  Do not give in to uncertainties.  Go to your heart center when you are unsure, and listen the advice that comes forth from there.  Also, you are probably aware that there is a kind of shift going on with your senses.  It seems that you are seeing things differently.  Food preferences are changing.  There might be a ringing in your ears.  And the smells, where are they coming from.  Even your fingers pick up different vibrations when touching something.  This is all an indication that you are reacting to the settling of these new energies as they move into your field.  Do not feel concerned or upset, changes are happening even within your physicality.  This is part of the Shift.  Be calm with it. October 9-15

So, whoever said things cannot go crazy.  Well, they are crazy now and getting crazier still.  This will be evident in your personal life as come relationships and friendships begin to crumble.  You do not even have to say what you mean, people are out there interpreting things for themselves, and because they are feeling threatened by the general tenor of unrest that is sweeping the world, they do not listen to what  you are saying.  They cannot.  They must see what they feel is right and true.  As for you, it is time to know WHO you are and what is most important for you.  This will be the things that holds you together and strong as things spin more and more out of control.  People are feeling the shift and they do not know what to do.  More and more people are choosing to check out by whatever means available.  Take time this week to know what it is that keeps you strong and in touch.  You are part of Universal Consciousness, and as such you can see, know, understand  and be in control of all that matters to you.  This is a week for compassion and understanding, but for strength also as you will have choices coming up this week that must be made.  Choose wisely, and always from your heart, then all will be well.

Sunday, October 9:    Grainy Orange

There can be some clashes today concerning different perspectives, opinions, and objectives.  It is important for you to be centered and grounded in WHO you are in order to see these things for what they really are.  Moreover, you to need to know for yourself what it is that is truly important and meaningful.  These days. there are challenges on every level and in every incoming vibration.  Clear seeing, far seeing, seeing with the eyes of the heart, will allow you to understand what it is that is really happening, to sort out the nuances and agendas, and to be strong in your own path and destiny.  Right now, things are crazy everywhere. but they need not make you crazy if you will just remember what it is that is truly important for you and be one with making that your reality.  It is time to discover and use your own personal mantra.

Crystal Energy:    Ruby Spinel in Biotite Mica—-A strong and powerful grounding and balancing combination, these energies bring focus and direction.  Resonates with the Root Chakra.

Monday, October 10:    Lemon Yellow

Columbus Day:    Everything appears to be on the up and up.  People seem happier than they have been for a time.  There is a sense that things are going along more smoothly than they have for a long time, and yet you are harboring a sense that something is up.  Be aware of your intuition.  Honor those crazy urges not to go somewhere, to do something out of character, to get out of weird conversations.  This will all be to your benefit.  There is a lot of tipping going on today and a lot of tipping points being reached.  Stay away from controversy and arguments.  Nothing will be settled that way.  Look to the comfort of your good friends and clarifying conversation. These kinds of things can bring a perspective on just what is going on.

Crystal Energy:    Fluorite—-This stone can assist in bringing a sense of calm to otherwise somewhat chaotic situations.  Its energy counters negativity and opens to the energies of the Universe.

Tuesday, October 11:    Red Violet

Full Hunter’s Moon:    This is an uh-oh, up and down kind of day.  Pay attention to your health.  If you are tired, take a few minutes to center and breathe.  You will need your wits about you as the day progresses.  Challenges will appear from all sides, and even things that you thought were dependable and written in stone can show themselves to have a hidden side.  Emotions will be close to the surface as news comes forth of things going on that you were not aware of.  Personal situations and relationships too will have a hard time finding any kind of even keel.  The best way to approach these energies is as the observer.  Watch hat is happening.  Feel the feelings, and go within to understand what it all means for you.  There is a greater picture evolving now and as it attempts to come into focus, a lot of things get twisted and turned about.

Crystal Energy:    Burro Creek Agate—-This stone can open one to what is truly going on, while bringing into focus the larger picture. It assists in forgiveness.  Resonates with the Crown and the 12th Chakras.

Wednesday, October 12:    Frosty White

You will need to look deeply into things that people have said, promised, sworn to,etc.  There is duplicity in the air, and with all the shifting energy it may be hard to determine just where it is coming from.  This is not a time to jump the gun in make decisions and/or accusations.  Rather, look within and see how peoples’s words and actions resonate with you on  a heart level.  There is much to be learned in the energy of the day about people and their motivations, just do not let yourself get so caught up in the obvious that you miss what is coalescing below the surface.

Crystal Energy:    Wavellite—-This mineral works to assist one in the skill of discernment, to see things dispassionately as they truly are.  Resonates with the Solar Plexus and Third Eye Chakras.

Thursday, October 13:    Dark Violet

Take extra time today in all that you do.  Even though there are things around you that make you feel you need to hurry, do not give into that kind of nervousness.  It is much more important to be aware of what is going on around you today.  The details are of great importance, especially in terms of some personal life changing projects,. ideas, and goals that you are working on.  Do not get caught up in other people’s stuff.  It is time for you to know and understand that your own stuff is more important to you than anything else.  Take time to work on and know your priorities.  Things are falling into shape right now, and in order for you to find your own true fulfillment, you must be certain, sure, and empowered in WHO you are.

Crystal Energy:    Green Prase—-This mineral brings balance by strengthening the foundation, moving through the heart and resonating with the vibrations of the Universal Consciousness.  Vibrates with the Root, Heart, and Crown Chakras.

Friday, October 14:    Bright Yellow

Take care today in what you do, what you think, and what you choose.  There can be surprises for you if you do not follow your own innate truth.  Take a look at some of the people you deal with and determine whether these are contacts you wish to pursue or just let go of.  THis is a decision making day.  There is clarity in the air which can assist you in making your choices, but you have to want to see things as they really are.  It is much easier to go with how things have been, the old paradigm may be somewhat toxic, but at least it is familiar. What are you choosing today.  Take some time to deal with WHO you are and what it is that you truly want.  Think about a plan.  Not too long term.  Things are shifting too quickly and too much to deal with long term, but a plan for what you want in your life by the end of this year …. or next year.  It does not matter.  The point of the exercise is taking time to feel what is right for you.  This involves a strong, long look at things as they are right now.

Crystal Energy:    Pearl —-Not really a crystal, but definitely an energy, an energy of making the most out of what you are given.  Take the lessons learned from the pearl to know your personal worth.  Resonates with the Third Eye Chakra.

Saturday, October 15:     Magneta

There is an air of unreality about today.  You are not going to feel connected to what is around you. You will, however, have the sense that something else is calling you, beckoning you, becoming very important in your life.  Look towards that urge.  There are messages there that can help you unlock some of the secret places in your life and your heart that have puzzled you because they seemed so out of character, so unrelated.  You are becoming more of WHO you are.  That can be scary, but it also can become more comfortable as you try it on and see how it all fits.  There is a lot of stuff going on around you today.  It is important to focus.  A lot of the stuff you once thought was important…. It is time for a garage sale.

Crystal Energy:    Clear Danburite—-The energy of this mineral is highly charged and directional, and, like lightning, it can illuminate, overcome, and wound.  It is a stone to use with caution and preparedness.  Vibrates to the Crown Chakra.

Jeff Masters on Ozone Hole, Phillipe, New Tropical Storm

nprecedented Arctic ozone hole in 2011; a Florida tropical storm next week?
Posted by: JeffMasters, 2:01 PM GMT on October 04, 2011 +8
An unprecedented ozone hole opened in the Arctic during 2011, researchers reported this week in the journal Nature. Holes in the Antarctic ozone layer have opened up each spring since the early 1980s, but the Arctic had only shown modest springtime ozone losses in the 5% – 30% range over the past twenty years. But this year, massive ozone destruction of 80% occurred at altitudes of 18 – 20 kilometers in the Arctic during spring, resulting in Earth’s first known case of twin ozone holes, one over each pole. During late March and portions of April, the Arctic ozone hole was positioned over heavily populated areas of Western Europe, allowing large levels of damaging ultraviolet rays to reach the surface. UV-B radiation causes skin damage that can lead to cancer, and has been observed to reduce crop yields in two-thirds of 300 important plant varieties studied (WMO, 2002.) The total loss of ozone in a column from the surface to the top of the atmosphere reached 40% during the peak of this year’s Arctic ozone hole. Since each 1% drop in ozone levels results in about 1% more UV-B reaching Earth’s surface (WMO, 2002), UV-B levels reaching the surface likely increased by 40% at the height of this year’s hole. We know that an 11% increase in UV-B light can cause a 24% decrease in winter wheat yield (Zheng et al., 2003), so this year’s Arctic ozone hole may have caused noticeable reductions in Europe’s winter wheat crop.

Figure 1. Left: Ozone in Earth’s stratosphere at an altitude of approximately 12 miles (20 kilometers) in mid-March 2011, near the peak of the 2011 Arctic ozone loss. Right: chlorine monoxide–the primary agent of chemical ozone destruction in the cold polar lower stratosphere–the same day and altitude. Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech.

What caused this year’s unprecedented Arctic ozone hole?
Earth’s ozone holes are due to the presence of human-emitted CFC gases in the stratosphere. The ozone destruction process is greatly accelerated when the atmosphere is cold enough to make clouds in the stratosphere. These polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) act like ozone destruction factories, by providing convenient surfaces for the reactions that destroy ozone to occur. PSCs only form in the 24-hour darkness of unusually cold winters near the poles; the atmosphere is too warm elsewhere to support PSCs. Stratospheric temperatures are warmer in the Arctic than the Antarctic, so PSCs and ozone destruction in the Arctic has, in the past, been much less than in the Antarctic. In order to get temperatures cold enough to allow formation of PSCs, a strong vortex of swirling winds around the pole needs to develop. Such a “polar vortex” isolates the cold air near the pole, keeping it from mixing with warmer air from the mid-latitudes. A strong polar vortex in winter and spring is common in the Antarctic, but less common in the Arctic, since there are more land masses that tend to cause large-scale disruptions to the winds of the polar vortex, allowing warm air from the south to mix northwards. However, as the authors of the Nature study wrote, “The persistence of a strong, cold vortex from December through to the end of March was unprecedented. In February – March 2011, the barrier to transport at the Arctic vortex edge was the strongest in either hemisphere in the last ~30 years. This unusual polar vortex, combined with very cold Arctic stratospheric temperatures typical of what we’ve seen in recent decades, led to the most favorable conditions ever observed for formation of Arctic PSCs. The reasons for this unusual vortex are unknown.

Figure 2. Global lower stratospheric departure of temperature from average since 1979, as measured by satellites. The large spikes in 1982 and 1991 are due to the eruptions of El Chicon and Mt. Pinatubo, respectively. These volcanoes ejected huge quantities of sulphuric acid dust into the stratosphere. This dust absorbed large quantities of solar radiation, heating the stratosphere. Stratospheric temperature has been generally decreasing in recent decades, due to the twin effects of ozone depletion and the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the lower atmosphere. During Jan – Aug 2011, Earth’s stratosphere had its 3rd coldest such period on record. Image credit: National Climatic Data Center.

Greenhouse gases cause stratospheric cooling
When ozone absorbs UV light, it heats the surrounding air. Thus, the loss of ozone in recent decades has helped cool the stratosphere, resulting in a feedback loop where colder temperatures create more PSCs, resulting in even more ozone destruction. However, in 1987, CFCs and other ozone-depleting substances were banned. As a result, CFC levels in the stratosphere peaked in 2000, and had fallen by 3.8% as of 2008, according to NASA. Unfortunately, despite the fact that CFCs are falling in concentration, the stratosphere is not warming up. The recovery of the ozone layer is being delayed by human emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. These gases trap heat near the surface, but cause cooling of the stratosphere and increased formation of the PSCs that help destroy ozone. We need only look as far as our sister planet, Venus, to see an example of how the greenhouse effect warms the surface but cools the upper atmosphere. Venus’s atmosphere is 96.5% carbon dioxide, which has triggered a hellish run-away greenhouse effect. The average surface temperature on Venus is a sizzling 894 °F, hot enough to melt lead. Venus’s upper atmosphere, though, is a startling 4 – 5 times colder than Earth’s upper atmosphere. The explanation of this greenhouse gas-caused surface heating and upper air cooling is not simple, but good discussions can be found at Max Planck Institute for Chemistry andrealclimate.org, for those unafraid of radiative transfer theory. One way to think about the problem is that the amount of infrared heat energy radiated out to space by a planet is roughly equal to the amount of solar energy it receives from the sun. If the surface atmosphere warms, there must be compensating cooling elsewhere in the atmosphere in order to keep the amount of heat given off by the planet the same and balanced. As emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise, their cooling effect on the stratosphere will increase. This will make recovery of the stratospheric ozone layer much slower.

Greenhouse gases cause cooling higher up, too
Greenhouse gases have also led to the cooling of the atmosphere at levels higher than the stratosphere. Over the past 30 years, the Earth’s surface temperature has increased 0.2 – 0.4 °C, while the temperature in the mesosphere, about 50 – 80 km above ground, has cooled 5 – 10 °C (Beig et al., 2006). There is no appreciable cooling due to ozone destruction at these altitudes, so nearly all of this dramatic cooling is due to the addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Even greater cooling of 17 °C per decade has been observed high in the ionosphere, at 350 km altitude. This has affected the orbits of orbiting satellites, due to decreased drag, since the upper atmosphere has shrunk and moved closer to the surface (Lastovicka et al., 2006). The density of the air has declined 2 – 3% per decade the past 30 years at 350 km altitude. So, in a sense, the sky IS falling due to the greenhouse effect!

Since any increase in solar energy would heat both the lower and upper atmosphere, the observed drop in upper atmospheric temperatures in the past 30 years argues against an increase in energy coming from the sun being responsible for global warming. The observed cooling of the upper atmosphere is strong evidence that the warming at Earth’s surface is due to human-emitted greenhouse gases that trap heat near the surface and cause compensating cooling aloft. It should also give us additional confidence in the climate models, since they predicted that this upper atmospheric cooling would occur. Keep in mind, also, that 2010 was tied for Earth’s hottest year on record, and the amount of energy coming from the sun during 2009 – 2010 was the lowest since satellite measurements began in the late 1970s. There has been no long-term increase in energy coming from the sun in recent decades, and the notion that global warming is due to an increase in energy coming from the sun simply doesn’t add up.

Commentary
The development of an ozone hole in the Arctic is a discouraging reminder that humans are capable of causing harmful and unexpected planetary-scale changes to the environment. A 2002 assessment of the ozone layer by the World Meteorological Organization concluded that an Arctic ozone hole would be unlikely to occur, due to the lack of a strong Arctic vortex in winter, and the fact CFCs levels had started to decline. “Day-to-day temperatures in the 2010 – 11 Arctic winter did not reach lower values than in previous cold Arctic winters,” said lead author Gloria Manney of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro. “The difference from previous winters is that temperatures were low enough to produce ozone-destroying forms of chlorine for a much longer time. This implies that if winter Arctic stratospheric temperatures drop just slightly in the future, for example as a result of climate change, then severe Arctic ozone loss may occur more frequently.” I might add that its a very good thing CFCs were banned in 1987, or else the Arctic ozone hole would have opened up much sooner and would have been far worse. It is highly probable that we will see future nasty climate change surprises far more serious than the Arctic ozone hole if we continue on our present business-as-usual approach of emitting huge quantities of greenhouse gases. Humans would be wise to act forcefully to cut emissions of greenhouse gases, as the cost of inaction is highly likely to be far greater than the cost of action.

Figure 3. Morning satellite image of Tropical Storm Philippe. Philippe has a Central Dense Overcast (CDO) of high cirrus clouds characteristic of a tropical storm nearing hurricane strength.

Tropical Storm Philippe no threat to land
In the middle Atlantic, Tropical Storm Philippe has managed to grow a bit more organized in the face of high wind shear of 20 – 30 knots. Satellite loops show Philippe is a small system with a modest amount heavy thunderstorm activity, with the surface circulation partially exposed to view by wind shear. Wind shear will remain high today, but is expected to relax to the moderate range on Wednesday as Philippe recurves to the northeast. This may allow Philippe to intensify into a hurricane, as predicted by several of the intensity forecast models. It is unlikely that Philippe will trouble any land areas.

A Florida tropical storm next week?
Recent runs by all of the computer forecast models predict that an area of low pressure will develop near Florida this weekend or early next week. The counter-clockwise flow around this low will bring strong winds and heavy rains to Northeast Florida and the Georgia coast, and it is possible this storm will develop into a tropical or subtropical storm. The situation is similar to Subtropical Storm Four of October 4, 1974, according to the latest extended forecast discussion from NOAA’s Hydrometeorological Prediction Center. That storm brought 10 – 14 inches of rain to the east coast of Florida and strong onshore winds of 30 – 40 mph that caused beach erosion and coastal flooding. The exact formation location of this weekend’s storm is still in doubt, with the ECMWF and UKMET models predicting the storm will form in the Gulf of Mexico off the west coast of Florida, and the GFS model predicting formation over the Bahamas. We’ll have to wait for future model runs before we can get a better handle on where and when this storm will most likely develop.

Overall Color for the Week:    Fire Engine Red

What’s the hurry?  What’s the emergency?  The energies of the week will make you feel as though everything is so important, however before you accept the overall importance of this or that, it is really, really important that you first know what it is that you are wanting for yourself.  Take some time this week to look around you are recognize the stuff that really does not mean much to you, the people who are there out of habit, the situations that constantly repeat.  There is much to be learned by a critical and impersonal analysis of these things.

Sunday, September 25:    Light Lavender

The morning is not going to be at all what you expected, so be ready for anything.  There is a message coming your way that has something importnat for you.  Do not discredit synchronicites or serendipity in this regard. Perhaps all you need is just to know that things are okay.  There is a lot of movement right now in your life, and sometimes you can feel like you are walking on a conveyor belt through a swamp, not having the time to focus or complete anything that you want to do.  This is a good time to look at priorities.  Pick out one, make that your folcus for the day, and get it done.  Get some kind of feeling of resolution about it.  Then you can put that aside and move on.  Tonight is a good time and a good energy for relaxing and just feeling what it is that you enjoy doing.  Make a little celebration of things.  Look out on the natural world around you and feel yoru connectedness.  This is a great exercise for calming the heart.

Crystal energy:    Albite—-The energies of this stone assist within flow, particularly in terms of cellular hydration.  Resonates with all chakras.

Monday, September 26:    Slate Grey

You will be finding that things are kind of oozing up from your memories and your past today.  The energy is such that there can be emotion around a lot of these.  Do not fight it, rather let the feelings come, take a look at them, honor them, and let them move on.  This is not a time to become stuck in things that are not helping you to move forward in what it is that you are truly wanting to do and be at this time.  We all have a past, and we can recognize that, but it is important tot to get stuck in it.  The new challenges and opportunities that are here in front of you today need your complete and conscious focus and attention.  Take time to center within your heart and know what it is that will be best for you at this time.  Stay focused on the essential WHO of you, and things will begin to flow more easily.  Moreover, you will start to see things and people for what they are.  This can cause a bit of upheaval, but sometimes upheaval is good..

Tuesday, September 27:    Cloudy White

This is a good day for taking care of yourself, honoring how you feel, doing what you want, and not worrying about all the other stuff.  Sometimes the other stuff has to take care of itself, and today you need to take care of you.  Take some time out to center.  Then treat yourself to something you love, a small (or large) indulgence, but it must come from your heart.  You know that if the indulgence is out of proportion with the other stuff going on in your life, you will regret it.  You are NOT to regret this indulgence.  It is something that will get you through some of the crazy times that are on the horizon.  This is also a good day for making a call that you have been putting off.  You can be very surprised at how they had looked forward to hearing from you.  There is not a lot of clarity in the air, but remember that miracles can come out of the clouds.

Crystal Energy:    Lavender Aventurine—-The energy of this stone assists those who are struggling with depression to let go of worries and achieve some calm.  It also is good for people who work with those in need, particularly counselors.  Resonates with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras.

Wednesday, September 28:     Grainy White

This is a day for remembering all the good things, and that is because there is a lot of turmoil, anger, and uncertainty in the air.  While it may not be coming from you, it is so much in the atmosphere that you will be noticing it.  This is a good time to step back (way back, today) and take a look at what is going on around you,.  You can find that there are those who will be revealing their true personalities and opinions.  Some of that might just surprised you. Do not plan to start or finish anything today because it all is going to take a lot more effort than it should.  This can leave you feeling frustrated and testy.  In this kind of energy also, it is good to take care in traffic and let that other guy go.  Sometimes the ride there is more rewarding and enlightening than the actual destination.  Tonight, take time to relax, do a little journaling or creative work, something that will allow you to come to grips with how you are feeling at this time.  And then, a good dinner, a glass of wine, a great conversation or a comfort movie.

Crystal Energy:    Massive Cuprite—-The energies of this mineral assist in bringing relaxation to one, particularly in terms of digestive related issues.  It allows for release of certain toxins in these areas.  Resonates with the Root, Navel, and Solar Plexus chakras.

Thursday, September 29:    Red Flame

Getting rid of the old, bringing in the new, and acknowledging all that you have done are all part of the atmosphere today.  If things are upsetting you, it is time to let people know about it.  Even more so, it is time to accept for yourself that you have limits in terms of what you will allow from others, and to define clearly those limits.  This is a huge step in reclaiming your power and putting forth your declaration of self worthiness, honor, and ability.  You have worked for a long time to make things accommodate the truths that you feel within your heart.  The energies of the day allow you to become your own champion and stand up for what it is that is truly you.

Crystal Energy:    Peach Moonstone—-This stone vibrates to the true knowing of the heart, bringing a sense of peace, understanding, and compassion.  It resonates with the Heart Chakra.

Friday, September 30:    Lime Green

Things will be appearing out of the mists today, but be aware that other things can just as easily be lost in them.  This is true on all levels – physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental.  There may be some strongly held ideas that are being shaken up as evidence comes forth to make you question their validity.  In dealings with people, be certain inside yourself of their sincerity and of the importance of the things they are presenting to you. The Trickster loves these foggy days, and he can hide himself in many, many different ways.  Look around you and be certain of the paths you take, the decisions you make, and the situations you encounter.  Past stuff can confuse when dealing with present focus and desire.

Crystal Energy:    Astrophyllite—-The energy of this mineral assists one in bringing together many strands of mysteries, emotions, relationships, and making sense of the whole, but not without dedication and effort on one’s own part.  Resonates with the Root and Crown Chakras.

Saturday, October 1:    Orange Yellow

There is movement going on today, and even if your were planning a quiet time, you cannot help but feel; it.  Along with that can come a sense of restlessness and the feeling that things are not going the way you want them to.  When you feel this way, step back and think about how it is that you are wishing things to fall into place in your life.  These kinds of feelings are hints of the greater picture that you need to be aware of.  Everything is falling into new patterns, ideas, and ways right now.  Not much is for certain.  That is why it is so important to center, to ground, and always to be aware of WHO you are.  Today affords you an experience of being you in the midst of all that is shifting and changing outside of you.  There can be some laughter as the day closes.

Crystal Energy:    Zincite—-This mineral is a great stimulant.  It works with the positive energies of the body to remove what is no longer desired.  It asks for your communication and agreement, and with those can bring about amazing results.  Resonates with the Navel and Solar Plexus Chakras.
