June 19-25

Overall Color for the Week:    Light Green Blue

The predominant element of this week is air.  Be aware of your breathing and how the air comes in and out.  You may find yourself with some difficulties in that area.  The winds are shifting, and with them is coming energy from other places and other sources.  These can cause you to feel light headed or uncertain.  Confusion is a major theme this week.  If you have decisions to make, be sure that you have all the facts and that you have taken a look at all options. This is a week for a good sense of humor.    Stuff is not always as important as it seems on the surface. Take your time.  Be patient.  Things started this week can end quickly, blown away with a quick gust.  Emotions will be close to the surface.  This is not a good time for stifling them.  Feel the feelings, and let the emotions pass through you.  This week brings a kind of catharsis o many levels, and your inner knowing is responding to this by a release of emotional baggage.  As the week progresses, you will find yourself feeling more able to see things in a new light as your perspective shifts.  Priorities are changing also, and you need to accept that.  Look around at the people in your life.  Communities are forming, and things and people have to be let go of in order that other new things and people can come in.  Take time this week to be with yourself and to work with WHO you are through some sort of meditative activity.  And Breathe.  When things become overwhelming, take a moment just  to center in your core and breathe through it all.  You will feel better. Solar Weather Patterns in Flux

HOW’S THE WEATHER? “Lately, the Sun has been behaving a bit strangely,” declare Lika Guhathakurtha (NASA) and Dan Baker (U. Colorado) on the opinions page of yesterday’s New York Times. In 2008-2009, solar activity plunged to a hundred-year low; and now that the sun is waking up again, no one is able to predict what will happen next. “Will solar activity continue to be sluggish, or will solar storms return with pent-up vigor?” they ask. Good question!

If You Need Something More to Worry About….

Total Destruction of Earth

Okay, so nobody is spending too much time worrying about what to do if the planet is annihilated, but at least one person has seriously pondered whether and when it could happen. From being sucked into a black hole to being blown up by an antimatter reaction, there are scientifically plausible risks of an event that would render this whole list moot. [Learn More]

Summer Solstice Notes

Celebrating the Solstices

by Cayelin K Castell

The Solstices mark the time of year when the Sun is rising and setting as far south (Winter Solstice) or as far North as possible before changing direction. When the Sun rises at its southern extreme in the Northern Hemisphere we have Winter Solstice. When the Sun rises at its northern extreme we have Summer Solstice.

The Sun at the Winter Solstice reaches an ending or death, dying to the previous yearly cycle. The Winter Solstice is marked by the longest night of the year, the shortest day. This time marks the beginning when the days slowly begin to lengthen and the nights slowly grow shorter.

The Sun at Sumer Solstice is reaching a point of fullness or the mid-point of the Solar Cycle. The Summer Solstice marks the longest day and the shortest night of the year and the turning point where the days slowly begin to shorten and the nights slowly begin to lengthen.

In the bigger picture, we are also ending a Great Year that has lasted nearly 26,000 years. That means this is time when we are witness to a new beginning of an entirely new 26,000 year cycle. The ending and beginning of a Great Year occurs over many years. We propose in Shamanic Astrology that it lasts at least 144 years as the processional cycle moves one degree every 72 years and these points are on at least some part of the Galactic Cross (the intersection of the plane of the Solar System with the plane of the Galaxy) for 72 years before and 72 years after the exact alignment.

The longest total lunar eclipse since July 2000 will occur on Wednesday (June 15), with skywatchers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia in prime position to witness the moon treat.

The event is the first lunar eclipse of 2011 and one of two total lunar eclipses this year. The eclipse, which will occur during June’s full moon, will begin at 1:24 p.m. EDT (1724 GMT) and last until 7 p.m. EDT (2300 GMT), but it will not be visible from North America.

For observers in regions where it will be visible, the eclipse could offer an amazing sight: the period of totality will be 100 minutes. In the last 100 years, only three other eclipses have rivaled the duration of totality of this eclipse, according to SPACE.com’s skywatching columnist Joe. Rao. The last lunar eclipse of similar length occured on July 16, 2000 and lasted 107 minutes.

Astronomers will unveil a “major result” on Tuesday (June 14) regarding the sun’s 11-year sunspot cycle.

The announcement will be made at a solar physics conference in New Mexico, according to an alert released today (June 10) by the American Astronomical Society. The discussion will begin at 1 p.m. EDT (1700 GMT).

Sunspots are blotches on the sun that appear dark because they are significantly cooler than the rest of the solar surface. While they look small from our vantage point on Earth, these enigmatic structures can be huge — up to 30,000 miles (48,280 kilometers) across, or as wide as the planet Neptune. Sunspots last for a few days or weeks before dissipating. [Photos: Sunspots on Earth’s Star]

Overall Color for the Week:    Clear

There are many things that will be coming to the surface this week, and in all areas.  Much has been hidden, hinted at, and/or redirected.  The many facades around these things will come tumbling down.  This can lead to disruption, emotions, reactions, and re-evaluations.  Many of these are way overdue.  This is week when  the energies will attempt to bring what is happening on the Earth into sync with the changes that are going on in the Universe. There is much resistance to this, and you will see this all around you.  People that you know will step out of their usual patterns in an attempt to convince themselves and others that things are not changing, that things are staying the same, that there is no need to look at the world from a new perspective.  When they cannot convince themselves of this, the emotions will follow, and oftentimes, the blame. People do not like to admit they are wrong, and they will, therefore, look outside themselves for someone to pin it on. Unfortunately there are mirrors everywhere, and they tell us what it is that we are unwilling to see for ourselves. This will not be an easy week, however if you are alert to the energies and the possibilities, you will find, with time, that this week was crucial for you in being able to move forward in your own power and to find the success that you know is yours.  This week is characterized by clarity.  This is in all areas.  That means that you may just have to confront your own hidden truths and secrets.  Stay centered, stay grounded, and you will find this one of the best weeks of your life. Nassim Nicholas Taleb & the Black Swan

A book by Taleb, THE BLACK SWAN, sounds interesting and definitely thought (if not angst) provoking.

A few excerpts:

The Black Swan: Quotes & Warnings that the Imbeciles Chose to Ignore

Nassim Nicholas Taleb: The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable (April 2007)

For the last 12 years, I have been telling anyone who would listen to me that we are taking huge risks and massive exposure to rare events. I isolated some areas in which people make bogus claims –epistemologically unsound. The Black Swan is a philosophy book (epistemology, philosophy of history & philosophy of science), but I used banks as a particularly worrisome case of epistemic arrogance –and the use of “science” to measure the risk of rare events, making society dependent on very spurious measurements. To me a banking crisis –worse than what we have ever seen — was unavoidable and NOT A BLACK SWAN, just as a drunk and incompetent pilot would eventually crash the plane. And I kept receiving insults for 12 years!

Quotes From the Black Swan (written b. 2003-2006) that the IMBECILES did not want to hear

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — NOAA is warning of a geomagnetic storm sometime on Wednesday, which may knock communications and grids in some locations.

The Sun released a moderate-classed solar flare (M2) on Tuesday. This flare was a different kind because it started out slow, then the sun blasted it off like a volcanic eruption.

Satellites recorded this rare event (Video Here).

“This is the type of time where people should have their earthquake kits handy,” TWS Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin said. “There isn’t much evidence, but it is a growing fact that solar storms trigger earthquakes here on Earth. Peru just had a magnitude-6.0 earthquake, and this usually means Baja and California are next in line.”

Meteorologists are against Martin for his belief and stance that solar storms trigger earthquakes, but there is a growing amount of eyes that are being opened to the possibility it may actually hold weight.
