Amazing Solar Flare

MAGNIFICENT FLARE: On June 7th at 0641 UT, magnetic fields above sunspot complex 1226-1227 became unstable and erupted. The resulting blast produced an M2-class solar flare, an S1-class radiation storm, and an unbelievable movie:

“It looks like someone kicked a clod of dirt in the air,” says solar physicist C. Alex Young of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in a Youtube video. “I’ve never seen material released in this way before–an amazing, amazing event.”

Much of the plasma thrown up by the blast simply fell back to the sun–indeed, that’s what makes the footage so dramatic. In the movies you can see blobs of hot gas as large as Earth making bright splashes where they hit the stellar surface. Some plasma, however, reached escape velocity and left the sun in the form of a coronal mass ejection: movie. Traveling faster than 1100 km/s, the CME should deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field during the late hours of June 8th or June 9th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras when the CME arrives.

Fires in & Impacting New Mexico

Here in the Valley, the smoke can get very heavy from the fires in Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico.  It is frightening to consider the number of fires, the extent of the fires, and the unprecedented lack of moisture.

To see a listing of current fires here in New Mexico, as well as some that are impacting the State, go to:  http://nmfireinfo.wordpress.com/

I think we are discovering more and more that natural disasters are everyone’s business.  The Earth keeps reacting on all levels and in all areas.  All elements are affected.  There is no  longer time to be blind to this.  It is everyone’s business.  A little thing as a thought of gratitude or love or compassion to the Earth can make a huge difference.  Gaia does not need our money.  She needs our love and respect.

More Mysterious Booms

What Are the Mysterious Booms?

© 2011 by Linda Moulton Howe

June 7, 2011  Albuquerque, New Mexico – After filing several 2011 Earthfiles reports about loud and mysterious booms in several states, I have received more emails about unusual and loud booms from California, Texas, Northeast Philadelphia, Indiana and Oklahoma.

Red dots are locations from White Rock, British Columbia, Canada (upper left circle) to Woodville and Crawfordville, Florida (lower right circle), where residents have heard “loud booms like a cannon” or “rolling, low thunder,” or a “low flying jet,” or “the first half of a lightening strike.” Recent unidentified, mysterious booms have been reported several times since December 2010 into May 2011, and the unexplained boom
phenomenon goes back to reports in 1804.

Solar Flare & Radiation Storm

M-FLARE AND RADIATION STORM: This morning around 0641 UT, magnetic fields above sunspot complex 1226-1227 became unstable and erupted. The blast produced an M2-class solar flare, an S1-class radiation storm, and a massive CME. A recording of the blast from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory ranks as one of the most beautiful and dramatic movies of the SDO era:

Gregg Braden on Spirituality & Science

The Wisdom of a Spirituality-Based Science

Posted: 06/ 5/11 11:17 AM ET

During the last years of the Cold War, I had a front row seat as a senior systems designer in the defense industry to one of the most frightening times in the history of the world, and the thinking that led to it. During the last years of the most potentially lethal, yet undeclared, war in human history, the superpowers of the United States and the former Soviet Union did something that seems unthinkable to any rationally minded person today. They spent the time, energy, and human resources to develop and stockpile somewhere in the neighborhood of 65,000 nuclear weapons — a combined arsenal with the power to microwave the Earth, and everything on it, many times over.

The rationale for such an extreme effort stems from a way of thinking that has dominated much of the modern world for the last 300 years or so, since the beginning of the scientific era. It’s based in the false assumptions of scientific thinking that suggest we’re somehow separate from the Earth, separate from one another, and that the nature that gives us life is based upon relentless struggle and survival of the strongest

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Both basins are battling it out for the first named system of the year, which one will it be?

Invest 91e is in the most favored location, west of Mexico. This system is in perfect position for rapid development over the next 48 hours and I would not be surprised to see it become a named system this week. The system will be named Adrian. Adrian would move to the northwest.

The system in the Caribbean Sea, Invest94l, has been affecting Jamaica, and the other islands surrounding it, with flooding rains as it just floats out there not moving much at all.

Quantum Measurement Without Distortion

Quantum Physics First: Physicists Measure Without Distorting

ScienceDaily (June 2, 2011) — Quantum mechanics is famous for saying that a tree falling in a forest when there’s no one there doesn’t make a sound. Quantum mechanics also says that if anyone is listening, it interferes with and changes the tree. And so the famous paradox: how can we know reality if we cannot measure it without distorting it?

An international team of researchers, led by University of Toronto physicist Aephraim Steinberg of the Centre for Quantum Information and Quantum Control, has found a way to do just that by applying a modern measurement technique to the historic two-slit interferometer experiment in which a beam of light shone through two slits results in an interference pattern on a screen behind.

In a new experiment, researchers have succeeded for the first time in experimentally reconstructing full trajectories which provide a description of how light particles move through the two slits and form an interference pattern. (Credit: iStockphoto/Karl Dolenc)

That famous experiment, and the 1927 Neils Bohr and Albert Einstein debates, seemed to establish that you could not watch a particle go through one of two slits without destroying the interference effect: you had to choose which phenomenon to look for.

“Quantum measurement has been the philosophical elephant in the room of quantum mechanics for the past century,” says Steinberg, who is lead author of Observing the Average Trajectories of Single Photons in a Two-Slit Interferometer, to be published in Science on June 2. “However, in the past 10 to 15 years, technology has reached the point where detailed experiments on individual quantum systems really can be done, with potential applications such as quantum cryptography and computation”

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano emits a plume of smoke and ash on Friday.

MEXICO CITY — The Popocatepetl volcano that towers over Mexico City is rumbling again.

The 17,886-foot mountain shot a blast of ash about 2 miles above its crater at dawn Friday.

Mexico’s national disaster prevention agency says the cloud drifted first to the west and then turned back east toward the city of Puebla.

It says the mountain shook for several minutes before the ash burst out.

The agency urges people to stay at least 7 miles from the crater, which is about 40 miles southeast of Mexico’s capital.

There were no reports of threat to populated areas.
