Effects of Ceres & Vesta on Earth

When Minor Planets Ceres and Vesta Rock Earth Into Chaos

ScienceDaily (July 15, 2011) — Astronomy & Astrophysics is publishing numerical simulations of the long-term evolution of the orbits of minor planets Ceres and Vesta, which are the largest bodies in the asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter. Ceres is 6000 times less massive than Earth and almost 80 times less massive than our Moon. Vesta is almost four times less massive than Ceres. These two minor bodies, long thought to peacefully orbit in the asteroid belt, are found to affect their large neighbors and, in particular, Earth in a way that had not been anticipated.

UPDATE 15/07 – 19:44 UTC : A 2:47 AM local time, Lokon volcano did send an ash column 800 meters in the sky. The renewed action comes after 14 hours of limited local ash bursts. The new eruption was preceded by a volcanic earthquake. The new ash clouds are carried to the north-west side of the island, the Tateli area.

Tropical Impulse Building

Tropical impulse will develop at the end of the month, threatening the Caribbean to the USA

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Tropical season has been quiet, however it normally is during July. We begin to see the developments around August and one seems to be ready to.

As of now the Atlantic Ocean is quite, but that will change during the last week of July. Thunderstorms are erupting across the Saharan Desert and these will shoot impulses out of Cape Verde, westward into the Atlantic.

One such impulse looks impressive on satellite over Africa now and will eject out of Africa on July 24th. This will be the system to watch for the Caribbean and the United States as the track is common for a classic Cape Verde season impact next month.

Activity in Eastern Region of Sun

EASTERN UNREST: An active region emerging over the sun’s eastern limb is hurling material high above the stellar surface. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded some of the action during the early hours of July 12th:

This eastern unrest is not Earth directed. Forecasters say the greater threat for geoeffective activity comes from sunspot 1247 (finder); it has a “beta-gamma” magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares. There is a 10% chance of such eruptions during the next 24 hours.

Threat from Volcanoes in Ballarat

Ballarat’s extinct volcanoes could pose risk, expert says

BY TOM MCILROY
06 Jul, 2011 11:42 PM
THE Ballarat region could be at risk from new volcanoes forming as Victoria remains overdue for a volcanic eruption, a University of Melbourne geologist has warned.Associate Professor Bernie Joyce said yesterday that most of Australia was unprepared for a volcanic eruption which could come without much warning.

Professor Joyce said extinct volcanoes, including Mt Warrenheip and Mt Buninyong, suggested similar volcanoes could form in the area.

“Because the volcanoes around the Ballarat area are not as young as others across western Victoria and Mt Gambier, you could expect a new volcano to come up in a cluster at some point in the future,” he said.

Last update: July 6, 2011 at 9:35 pm by By Armand Vervaeck and James Daniell

Earthquake summary : A massive M 7.6 earthquake struck in the open sea in the Kermadec Island region. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did issue a Tsunami alert for Tonga or New Zealand. It was later canceled without any real tsunami. To read the full story as it happened, we advise our readers to start at the bottom of the page (earthquake data) and to continue up.  It will read as a written movie of the events.

Magnetospheres

Magnetosphere

A magnetosphere is that area of space, around a planet, that is controlled by the planet’s magnetic field. The shape of the Earth’s magnetosphere is the direct result of being blasted by solar wind. It prevents most of the particles from the Sun, carried in the solar wind, from hitting the Earth. The Sun and other planets have magnetospheres, but the Earth has the strongest one of all the rocky planets. The Earth’s magnetosphere is a highly dynamic structure that responds dramatically to solar variations. Life on Earth developed and is sustained under the protection of this variable magnetosphere.

Cyclone? Hurricane? Typhoon? Which is Correct?

How Do Cyclones, Hurricanes and Typhoons Differ?

By Life’s Little Mysteries Staff
16 March 2010 12:46 PM ET

Cyclone, typhoon and hurricane are all just different names for the same basic weather phenomenon.

They are all powerful, spinning storms collectively called tropical cyclones, which form over warm tropical waters and reach sustained internal wind speeds of 74 mph.

Hurricanes start in the Atlantic, Caribbean and northeast Pacific, while typhoons form in the western Pacific and southeastern Indian Ocean. If one of these monsters develops in certain parts of the Indian Ocean or part of the southwest Pacific Ocean, it goes by one of three variations of the generic term cyclone.

Cold Fusion – For Real?

“Those who have persisted with cold fusion research have
seen a lot of energy coming from experiments.”    – Peter Hagelstein, Ph.D., MIT

2011 Lattice Assisted Nuclear Reaction/Cold Fusion (LANR/CF) Colloquium was held
at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, June 11 – 12, 2011, where two dozen scientists
discussed their experimental evidence that test tube nuclear fusion is
a real effect. Illustration © 2011 by Discovery News.
