Anyone who ever felt that Gaia does not speak back will find thmeselves quite shaken up this week as not only does Gaia speak, but she howls and whines and laments.  This is a week for being kind, loving, compassionate, and grateful.  That attitude will allow you to see through all the confusion and fear and anger that is popping out all over the globe. Also, when you are compassionate, that emotion attracts more and more to it so that others feel.  And that is sometimes enough.

Sunday, April 17:   Orange Flame

There is disillusion in the air today.  Along with that comes an unveiling of some secrets or doubts that have been held for quite some time.  This is a day on which compassion and patience towards self and others will bring great rewards and understanding.  The energies also bring a kind of lulling, a rocking.  There are things happening around you of which you will not be aware.  This is, therefore. a good day for exercising your intuition.  Much of what is coming will be hinted at, and if you are alert to what is not being said, you will be able to deal better with what is on the surface while, at the same time, preparing for what is underneath.

Monday, April 18:    Slate  Blue

Things that you have been waiting for will be delayed or, in a worst case scenario, it will be discovered that they were never coming after all.  This is a slow kind of day, when you are not going to feel like getting a lot done.  Also there may be some physical issues that keep you from feeling your best.  Take time to be with yourself and be kind to yourself. Listen to your body.  The currents in the air today are conflicting and everyone is responding differently.  Be aware of what your perspective is. By so doing, you will see what is important for you.

The day will start out on a slow note.  Take this time to review your dreams of the night before, ground, and center.  You might feel as though you are walking through jello for most of the morning.  Time will drag and you will not be accomplishing the things that you wanted to get done. Stay away from the temptation to get agitated by this.  The afternoon will bring clarity along with some new energy.  The vibrations shift today around 1:00 pm, and from that time forward things will look different and feel different.  If there are connections to be made, letters to answer, issues to deal with this is the time to do it.  Once again, clarity is very important, so make sure that you understand exactly what is being said before acting.  Some things that seem obvious are not so..

Sunshine and flowers are the themes of the day.  Things are springing up all over and there is a joy in the air.  People will be more willing to hear new ideas, entertain new concepts, deal with new individuals, so take advantage of this energy.  There are things that you have been wanting to do, things you have been desiring to get out into the open, but you have held back for a number of reasons.  Today those reasons no longer are important.  This day is a true window of opportunity.  Do not let it pass. Seize the time, and be forthright.  Some amazing things can come out of this.  You will not see them all right away, but you are planting the seeds for future fulfillment.

This is a day for remembering, not because you want to but because you cannot help but.  Thoughts of persons gone out of your life may haunt you, and as part of this, you can expect times of deja vu.  These events will  not be frightening, but on some level quite consoling,.  All of us hide deep memories, thoughts, and regrets.  These are close to the surface today, and the energy favors resolution.  Take time to work with past events and issues that you shared with others, and you will finally be able to see the lessons that are there and the hidden meaning in what has gone before.  There is a kind of gentle finality in the air today. Embrace it, and be grateful.

Earth Day:  Good Friday:  There is a tiredness and a lethargy in the air.  People will be slow to react and slow to register.  Be cautious.  This is a day on which the sly might just try to get one by on you.  And you are well aware of certain people within your circle of acquaintances who would be very pleased to do this.  Also, be aware of and stand firm within your personal power.  Trust your inner knowing.  Let your intuition be your guide. There are things for you to know and to learn about, however unless you let go of some of the logical/linear, there is a good possibility that they will slip by.  Take nothing for granted today and look for what lies beneath the surface.

Mercury goes direct:   The clarity you have been looking for is not there.  It is time to look in other places and to consider other options.  Tried and true ways and means no longer hold the security or the solutions that they did before. To repeat old patterns and actions will just leave you unfulfilled and frustrated.  Strike out today on your own, but first spend some time taking a good long look at just WHO you are within your innermost being. There are things there that can surprise and delight you.  Namaste.

Giant ocean whirlpools puzzle scientists. 44010.jpegUS scientists discovered two giant whirlpools in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Guyana and Suriname. It became a sensational discovery because this part of the ocean has been studied thoroughly, and no one expected anything like that to appear in the area. More importantly, no one can understand where the whirlpools came from and what surprises they may bring to people.

According to Brazilian scientist Guilherme Castellane, the two funnels are approximately 400 kilometers in diameter. Until now, these were not known on Earth. The funnels reportedly exert a strong influence on climate changes that have been registered during the recent years.

“Funnels rotate clockwise. They are moving in the ocean like giant frisbees, two discs thrown into the air. Rotation occurs at a rate of one meter per second, the speed is sufficiently large compared to the speed of oceanic currents, on the border hoppers is a wave-step height of 40 cm,” Castellane said

April showers? Yes! The 16th to the 26th this month brings us the April Lyrid Meteor Shower, with the peak occurring on April 22nd.

The meteors in this shower tend to be bright and leave persistent trains as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. In recent years the shower has averaged 10 to 20 meteors per hour.

You may think that this sounds like a fairly mediocre shower and not worth bothering with, but it has been known for the Lyrids to surge and rates rise rapidly to over 100 per hour! This is what makes this shower so interesting and difficult to predict. Will it be a biggy this year or not?

Lyrid meteors radiate from a point (radiant) in the constellation of Lyra and this is where this shower gets its name. The best time to look for Lyrid meteors will late in the evening on April 22nd after 10 pm as the constellation of Lyra rises up from the northeast horizon.

This will give you 2 or 3 hours of meteor watching before the waning gibbous moon rises and starts to wash out the sky. But still, it’s well worth staying up to see as many bright meteors as possible.

This video provided by the Solar Dynamics Observatory provides a side-by-side comparison of the Sun from precisely two years ago (left, from SOHO in 2009) to the present (right, from Solar Dynamics Observatory, showing March 27-28, 2011) which dramatically illustrates just how active the Sun has become. The comparisons shown in two similar wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light, reveal how the Sun now sports numerous active regions that appear as lighter areas that are capable of producing solar storms. Two years ago the Sun was in an extremely quiet solar minimum. The Sun’s maximum period of activity is predicted to be around 2013, so activity will likely continue to ramp up.

NASA’s Swift, Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory have teamed up to study one of the most puzzling cosmic blasts yet observed. More than a week later, high-energy radiation continues to brighten and fade from its location.

Astronomers say they have never seen anything this bright, long-lasting and variable before. Usually, gamma-ray bursts mark the destruction of a massive star, but flaring emission from these events never lasts more than a few hours.

Overall Color for the Week:   Purplish-Blue

Sometimes, when things are very much at the forefront and in one’s face, you can lose sight of what is going on in other places.  This is and has been happening with the situation in Japan.  This week, and for some time to come, there will be other elements that are heating up around the globe. They might be noted, but will generally be glossed op ver.  It is important this week to look below the surface of the news as there are new themes and elements developing that will be needing close attention as the weeks go on.  It is time to become prepared.  You need to determine what that means for you.  This is also a week in which quick changes and reversals are possible, and that means in all areas —- weather, decisions, allegiances, etc.

On the personal level, things will be pretty much up in the air and as they will be for most of this week.  This is not a good week for large projects or important conversations.  If you attempt either, there is both frustration as well as lack of closure in the air.  Take time this week to just be.  Watch what is happening around you.  Everyone is responding and reacting to what is going on in the news in different ways.  A lot of people are feeling themselves lost and friendless.  There is much disillusion, worry, and fear out there.  You will find this as you go through the week.  If you are strong in WHO you are, not only will this week be a positive experience for you, but things will fall into place, and you will come out with a new concept of your own abilities.

On the larger scale, there is more and more shifting of the plates of the Earth.  No continent will be immune.  As the plates shift, the winds and waters stir up, both on the surface of the Earth and in the air.  This is a week in which many will wonder what is going on, and then again, many will be leaving.  There is a sense of sorrow that is growing larger and larger. This is a sign that with time, joy will follow, but it is necessary to be strong and centered in WHO you are.  As things shift on the surface of the globe, in terms of politics there will be some ups and downs.  There are going to be some surprise alterations in power in a number of smaller countries, particularly those in the Middle East area.  Also, there will be more and more grassroots movements coming about.  People will be standing up for what they know is right, and they will not allow the interests and threats of others make them back down.  This movement of the grassroots is gaining momentum, and as that happens, people will begin to become aware of their own power and how to use it.  In the financial sector, there will be news of great stuff, but it is mere facade.  On a different note, something is poised to fall from the sky.

So the energy of the day has to do with what is happening on the surface. This means that you will be seeing a lot of stuff going on, but will not be able to pinpoint the why and wherefore.  It is a good day to relax and take it easy.  Do not expect big things.  Nothing big is ready to happen within your world.  Sit back and get to know WHO you are within your own skin. Do things you have always liked to do — garden, paint, watch a favorite movie. But,  by all means take time to regroup.  Then you will be ready to address the coming week in your own power.

You may be feeling tired today.  Energies are low, as is ambition.  This is not a good day to realize what it is that you desire.  DO not plan to get a lot done in terms of the tangible.  Rather, take time to watch and see what is going on outside of you. This is a day for looking outside.  What is going on inside needs time to ferment and grow.  As the week progresses, you will become more aware not only of your strengths but also of what it is that you need to move forward with your desires.  There are hints in the air today.  Be aware of them..  Note them down.  They are transitory and will not return.

There is a playfulness in the air today, but along with that comes the Trickster.  It is important to discriminate what is what.  This is a day on which it is important to use your vision and trust your intuition.  Much is happening today on all levels, but where you put your focus will determine what it is that you are aware of to the exclusion of everything else.  It is important also to be open to synchronicity as that will point you in the right direction.  There is a message coming form someone that will bring you joy.

There is much that will be done in secret today.  If you are wanting to get to the bottom of things, you will need to be very thorough in your approach and follow through.  People will be feeling that they have a lot at stake, and because of this they will not be forthcoming.  There are allies for you in unexpected places, be open to helping hands.  Right now the energies are shifting crazily so much is up in the air in terms of personal relationships. The good news is that the true friends made at this time will become part of your emerging community.

Although it may not be completely manifest in today’s energy, when the seeds of heartfelt desire are sown in the energy of true possibility, much can be achieved.  You will find that there are those out there who have things to say to you, and that some of them are those you would least expect.  Take time to rest tonight.  The day’s energy will be frenetic, and you will need to recover.

There will be some deja-vu around.  Do not let it startle you.  Combined with the continuing thinning of the veils, you might think sometimes that you are going crazy, but no.  Craziness is just the way things are right now. This is a good day to check things twice, including taking a second look before going out into traffic.  The air of the day is also somewhat distracting so not only you, but everyone else will be feeling it.  Take some time to appreciate the beauty of nature.  Feel its authenticity and give thanks.

There are things that will be coming out related to you that can make you wonder.  There are those who will be recognizing you for your efforts in the past.  And that too can make you wonder.l  You might be feeling a bit out of control of things around you, but do not get shaken up about this.  Rather this is a good day for appreciating the fact that you are making a difference to people and things.  Sometimes you forget.

The massive magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck off the east coast Japan’s main island on March 11, 2011 set in motion a fierce tsunami that may have claimed thousands of lives, and sent tsunami warnings all across the Pacific basin, thousands of kilometers away from the quake’s epicenter. How do earthquakes trigger such enormous tsunami events, and how can scientists predict where these massive waves might travel? Universe Today talked with Anne Sheehan, who is a professor of geological sciences at University of Colorado at Boulder, and is also affiliated with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, as well as getting input from David Admiraal, an associate professor of Engineering at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

X-Class Solar Flare 3/09

X-FLARE: March 9th ended with a powerful solar flare. Earth-orbiting satellites detected an X1.5-class explosion from behemoth sunspot 1166 around 2323 UT. A movie from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows a bright flash of UV radiation plus some material being hurled away from the blast site:

A first look at coronagraph images from NASA’s STEREO-B spacecraft suggests that the explosion did propel a coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. This conclusion is preliminary, however, so check back later for updates.

After four years without any X-flares, the sun has produced two of the powerful blasts in less than one month: Feb. 15th and March 9th. This continues the recent trend of increasing solar activity, and shows that Solar Cycle 24 is heating up. NOAA forecasters estimate a 5% chance of more X-flares during the next 24 hours.
