(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Thunderstorms slammed the populated areas overnight on Sunday and into Monday morning and this will continue today.

TWS’ Southern California Weather division; SCWXA, issued a Thunderstorm Watch for the region on Monday evening. A few hours after, the first thunderstorms hit Los Angeles.

TheWeatherSpace.com Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin states the watch continues and there will be more.

“Widespread thunderstorms are occurring in the Southland,” said Martin. “Per my projections at SCWXA, will keep the Thunderstorm Watch box activated through today and tonight as the best is yet to come where we get frequent lightning anywhere from Orange County, Inland Empire, and San Diego County today and this evening.”

Northern California Quakes

California Earthquakes: Twin Shocks Jolt Nothern California

08/24/11 09:04 AM ET   AP

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — While the East Coast recovers from earthquake jitters, small quakes have been rocking California.

The U.S. Geological Survey says in a computer-generated report that the latest was a magnitude-4.4 quake that struck at 4:59 a.m. Wednesday about nine miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes.

A Mono County sheriff’s dispatcher who didn’t give her name says there were a couple of “just wondering” calls but no reports of damage.

There was a magnitude-3.6 quake centered six miles southeast of Oakland at 11:36 p.m. Tuesday.

That shaker was felt by people throughout the San Francisco Bay area, but there are no reports of damage.

Mama Whale now in River More than 50 Days

Hospitality not lacking as whale’s Klamath River stay reaches 50 days

By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com

If the large female gray whalethat has now resided in Northern California’s Klamath River for 50 days ever decides to leave, who knows what memories she’ll take.

Because of the peculiar cast of supporters she has attracted, they could include the rhythmic beat of native drums, courtesy of the Yurok Tribe; the reading of prayer, or harmonious tunes strummed on a ukulele by a man on a stand-up paddleboard.

The whale and her calf made headlines after they were first seen inside the river on June 23, having taken a right turn into the waterway instead of continuing north from Mexico’s nursing grounds to Arctic home waters. The whale is presently 3-4 miles upriver, just below the California-Oregon border, beneath the Highway 101 bridge.

Marine mammal experts, working with the Yurok Tribe, tried several methods — mostly after the calf swam out of the river two weeks ago — to persuade the mother to leave. These included banging on pipes, spraying water cannon and broadcasting the sounds of killer whales.

July 27, 2011 – UFO Disguised As Blimp Above Hollywood Hills?

Email to Earthfiles, July 27, 2011:  “We live in the Hollywood Hills (top red circle).
(Today) my wife started taping what I thought was a blimp in the sky.
She said it suddenly just appeared. She started recording it, but it zipped away
seconds later and scared the crap out of us. We looked around for
another 2 minutes but it never came back.”

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — A missile was test launched at Vandenberg Air Force Base on Wednesday morning, resulting in the destruction of the missile.

Air force officials detected an anomaly during the flight and destroyed the missile for safety reasons. TWS Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin saw an irregular flight path.

“I was with three people and told them it looks a bit odd because the path was not correct, it was lower than usual,” said Martin. “Was sparkling a lot more than just stages so that could be a clue to what caused the problem.”

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Cooler than normal temperatures continue for the Western Coast of the United States as trough hangs tight.

Rain fell in parts of Northern California and Southern Oregon on Monday and this will move east for your Tuesday. A frontal zone will bring rain to the Seattle and Portland areas on Thursday. This is not a flooding hazard, but it will drop some rainfall in these spots.

As for the rest of the coastal areas, Southern California is in the middle of a ridge to the east and a trough over the Pacific Northwest. The trough seems to be winning as thunderstorms are confined in the state of Arizona.
