Strong, very shallow earthquake in Nicaragua – 1 death, 266 injured, 1500 houses damaged

11.04.2014 15:07 UTC: More than 1500 houses were damaged. The most affected towns are Nagarote (~ 700 houses) and Managua (~ 550 houses). Many dozend people in Managua were displaced.
11.04.2014 08:10 UTC: 266 injured was stated by SINAPRED, the disaster management agency of the Nicaraguan government. A red alert has been called.

822 houses are damaged or destroyed according to latest reports meaning around 1500 people are likely homeless.
This quake was located approx. 50 km north of Managua. More than 100 houses were damaged, some of them collapsed. The most affected areas are the town Naragore (Leon Region) and surrounding villages. Damage (mainly minor) was also caused in Managua, where a landslide buried two roads. 3 people were injured by falling debris there, and many more altogether in Nicaragua, many more had to be evacuated, fearing additional earthquakes. Affected by evacuations is a hospital in Leon, where the quake caused cracks in plaster.
Power and water supply is interrupted in some areas.
Six aftershocks larger than M 5 occurred so far.
